September: National Recovery Month and Other Great Resources
September is a month adored for the newness it brings. Football, cool weather, and pumpkin spice all resurrect from their dormancy to greet us once again. But for many, the rebirth experienced this month is clouded by the constant weight of substance abuse. Those who long to enjoy the new life that the new season brings wish to feel the same newness that comes from breaking away from the warfare of addiction.
For thirty years, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has been working to bring awareness to the epidemic of substance abuse by marking the month of September as National Recovery Month. The SAMHSA provides resources for those seeking recovery from substance abuse, and celebrates with those who are finding victories in their pursuit of recovery.
Here at NA Beer Club, we salute those who are seeking recovery, and want to highlight a few resources the SAMHSA provides:
National Helpline
(1-800-662-4357) The SAMHSA provides a Treatments Referral Routing service, available 24-hours a day for any person in need of treatment for substance abuse. The services are free and confidential, and available in English and Spanish.
Events
The SAMHSA provides an abundance of events during Recovery Month. These events include, but are not limited to, parties, concerts, educational events, festivals, and more. Many events are hosted throughout the year, but September is a great month to take advantage of the opportunities available during Recovery Month.
Share Stories
People with recovery stories are invited to share their successes and celebrate with others by emailing their story to the SAMHSA. Over the years, they have collected many stories which can be read on their website or viewed through their YouTube channel.
Do you have a recovery story you’d like to share? We want to hear it! Send in your story to info@nabeerclub.com.
