Why do people drink NA beer? What’s the point of beer without alcohol anyway?
For a long time, people have had preconceived notions about what NA beer is, who it’s for, and why people drink it.
We’d like to dispel a few myths about NA beer once and for all. Whether you’re a regular NA beer drinker, or have never had it, you should know what’s true and what’s not about.
1) NA Beer Sucks
Not that long ago, this wasn’t exactly false. In the United States, our options for NA beer did kind of suck.
You used to only be able to find one or two brands of near beer at restaurants and grocery stores. Usually, they had been sitting on the shelf for a long time.
However, that has since changed. American breweries have been making some top-tier non-alcoholic craft beers recently and the trend continues to rise.
If someone tried to make the argument today that NA beer sucks, point them to any one of these amazing American non-alcoholic beers and they’ll change their mind.
2) NA Beer Doesn’t Have Alcohol
But it’s right there in the name, correct? “Non-Alcoholic” beer?
While, yes, we call it non-alcoholic beer, there is still a small amount of alcohol in NA beer.
In fact, United States law declared that any malt beverage with an alcohol content below 0.5% can be legally defined as “non-alcoholic” and is not regulated the same as regular beer.
Even though there is some alcohol in NA beer, it’s almost physically impossible to feel the effects of alcohol after drinking it.
3) NA Beer is just for Sober People
Like Myth #1, this wasn’t necessarily a myth for a long time. It used to be that most people who drank NA beer did so because they couldn’t drink regular, leaded beer.
Health issues, alcohol dependency, and pregnancy were the main reasons people turned to non-alcoholic options.
However, that has changed. Now, all types of beer-lovers everywhere turn to NA beer just to get a break from alcohol.
Some people can’t help but “just do one more” when they’re out at the bar with their friends and don’t want a DUI.
Some want their mind clear and focused the next day so, instead of cutting themselves off, they switch to NA beer.
Some like to party all day, but just can’t hang like they used to without passing out in the early evening.
There are plenty of reasons why people switch to NA beer while drinking regular, alcoholic beer. They just love the taste of beer and want to drink more of it.
4) Good NA Beer is Hard to Find
Again, this myth used to be true, but not anymore. Now that great non-alcoholic beer options are growing, there are plenty of places to buy NA beer.
More stores are carrying non-alcoholic beer options, brewers are shipping directly, and there are many websites where you can purchase NA beer online to be shipped to you, including our very own online NA beer store.Â
5) You can purchase NA beer if you’re under 21 in the United States
While we haven’t found a clear law that states a legal age for purchasing non-alcoholic beer, we know from experience that most stores, online and offline, require purchasers to be at least 21 years old.
This probably isn’t because of a specific rule, they just choose to card purchasers to avoid any trouble and to be safe when dealing with the legal gray area.
Technically, the legal drinking age in the United States is set by the individual states. However, the federal government will financially penalize them for lowering the legal drinking age in their state.
So there you have it. Hopefully, we’ve clarified some questions and concerns you’ve had about these NA beer myths. If you were on the fence about NA beer, we hope this article was able to convince you to give it a try.
