Woodland Farms Brewery carries a rich history that dates back to its origins as a dairy farm owned by the Rowan family. Established in 1895, the farm remained in operation until the mid-1970s when, following the passing of the family’s patriarch, none of the ten Rowan children chose to continue the dairy farming tradition. As a result, the cows and barn were sold to the neighboring Johnson family, though the Rowan family retained ownership of the original farmhouse, which they continue to inhabit today. The close relationship between the Rowan and Johnson families ensured a smooth transition, and to this day, Rowan family members lend a hand in milking cows and managing the farm. In a nod to sustainability, all of the spent grain from Woodland Farms Brewery is repurposed as feed for the Johnson family’s cows.

The brewery itself is a collaborative venture between the Rowan and Perry families, inspired by the desire to honor the heritage of the Woodland Farms name. Though the brewery is not located on the original farm property, visitors to the tasting room can immerse themselves in its history through relics and photographs from the dairy farm’s prime years. The decision to establish the brewery off-site was a practical one, as the farm remains an active dairy operation. With humor, the families often note that the aroma of fresh cow manure might not pair well with the fragrance of a finely brewed beer.

Woodland Farms Brewery has gained widespread acclaim for its innovative line of non-alcoholic beers, which have been warmly received by the market and highly praised by enthusiasts. Their dedication to quality and their deep connection to family and tradition continue to define their success.

The brewery is located in Kittery, Maine, and has produced quite a repertoire of NA beers such as the Whitty White, the Double Chocolate Dark, the Strata IPA, and the West IPA.
