Non-alcoholic beer has been fairly prevalent in Europe and Canada, however, the United States has carried a stigma around those who drink it.
Things are changing in the U.S. though. The popularity of non-alcoholic beer has been growing and breweries around the country are taking notice. More NA Beer is being made and people are opening up to the idea of drinking it. We wanted to take a look at why popularity is rising and evidence of its effects.
American Breweries Dedicated to NA Beer
As you probably know, the number of micro-breweries around the US is rapidly rising.
But what you probably didn’t know is that the same can be said for non-alcoholic craft breweries.
Craft breweries are opening up all over the US and they are focusing solely on non-alcoholic beer. Brewing companies like Athletic, Bravus, and Wellbeing are filling a gap in the market for tasty non-alcoholic beer.
Macro-Breweries are joining the non-alcoholic beer fun too
As further evidence of NA Beer’s growing popularity, the corporations are throwing their hats in the ring too. O’Doul’s isn’t the only market-leader with a non-alcoholic beer anymore.
Heineken launched an NA Beer of their own called “0.0” in 2019. Reviews everywhere are overwhelmingly positive stating that it tastes just like the original.
Miller-Coors launched their NA beer called “Coor’s Non-Alcoholic” back in 1997 as well as Beck’s Non-Alcoholic.
However, other big brands like Budweiser have their own NA Brews like “Prohibition,” but aren’t available in the U.S., only Canada and Europe.
Google searches for “non alcoholic beer” is on the incline
Since 2004, more people in the United States have been searching for “non alcoholic beer” each year. This is strong evidence that more Americans are becoming curious about what non-alcoholic beer has to offer.
How do you explain the growing demand for non-alcoholic beer?
More people are “Sober Curious”
Ruby Warrington’s book “Sober Curious” talks about all the health benefits of consuming less alcohol. Many millennials are taking this to heart, 22% even say they are drinking less. More people are becoming conscious of their physical and mental health and cutting out alcohol can have great effects on both.
Tired of being Social Outcasts
Outlined in another blog of ours, people like the social aspects of drinking beer but not everyone likes the effects. They don’t want to be the outcast drinking a water while everyone else drinks their beer. Non-alcoholic beer provides a great solution for those who want to remain social and healthy.
People just don’t care anymore
For a while, drinking a non-alcoholic beer was something embarrassing. You would often get snide questions from others or receive the occasinal jab in the ribs for ordering one.
But as people weigh the benefits of non-alcoholic beer to the consequences of being the butt of a joke, they’re finding that it really doesn’t matter. In the end who cares what others think?
Non-alcoholic beer gives people the freedom to socialize and remain healthy while enjoying the great taste of a bottle of suds.
So if you are wondering what non-alcoholic beer has to offer, go ahead and order one. You’re an adult and no one should control your actions.
Be curious. Be responsible. But most importantly, be free to do whatever the hell you want.
